The Good Shepherd
Fictional account of how the CIA was born through the eyes of a man, showing how it affected his family and friends.
I blame Robert De Niro. There were some interesting plot points in the movie, yet the way they were presented and dragged out was so incredibly slow, it made the entire movie boring when it didn’t need to be. It had potential, but so much was held back in the presentation that I have to think it was the director’s fault.
Even with the plodding pace, I missed some things and figured it out later. I thought the CIA had been started in the beginning of the movie, but they just hadn’t called it by a name. When it isn’t officially started until the very end, I was confused since I thought it was already started. Maybe I napped during the part that was clear earlier in the movie?
One thing I did find impressive was Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie were allowed to grow old in the movie, but not with scary old make-up. Little wrinkles around their eyes were added and bits of grey in their hair, but not much more than that. Most of it was displayed in how they carried themselves by moving a little bit slower and not as gracefully as when they were younger. If only the rest of the movie was as impressive as that.
