The Simpsons

The Simpsons Movie

Directed: David Silverman
Starring: Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Hank Azaria, Yeardsley Smith

Homer sings a song about spider pig and some other funny non-related stuff happens.

Whenever there is a movie version of a tv show, you wonder if it will just feel like an overextended episode. This movie does feel like you are watching another episode, but it doesn’t feel overly long. It feels just right. The only thing that wasn’t in the movie was some random way to start the movie that disappears while the story suddenly shifts elsewhere. I always loved how episodes started in one direction and then ended somewhere completely different and the two stories weren’t really related. Everything in the movie tied together from Homer loving the big, destroying the environment, running away and then fighting to save Springfield.

We saw it in the beer theater during the afternoon so kids were allowed in with their parents. About half the audience was kids, but they were all well behaved. In the beginning, during an Itchy & Scratchy part, the girl behind me was giggling at the violence. This made me smile. At the very end when the credits rolled, Homer pops up and talks about floor popcorn being good. One kid in the front found this hilarious and repeated it non stop. Good thing the movie was over at that point, and it wasn’t mentioned earlier, or I might have needed to throw things.

My favorite part was the spider pig song. There was a row of people that knew the entire song, beyond what was shown in the trailer, and they sang along with Homer. I actually found that funny. The spider pig song showed up two more times in the movie in two different incarnations. They knew it was such an awesome song. It is right up there with Mr. Plow’s song.
