Will hated those cops, had worked more than a few cases where he’d gotten them kicked off the force. You couldn’t say you were one of the good guys if you did the same thing the bad guys did.

5/5 stars

This has been my favorite of the Will Trent series so far and also the most gruesome. I have not read the Grant County series, which was written before the Will Trent series, so I was unfamiliar with Sara Linton. It isn’t necessary to read the other series first since she is introduced nicely in this book. I really liked her character. I enjoyed her interactions with Special Agents Will Trent and Faith Mitchell and I hope she is around in future books in the series.

It was nice to see the partnership that Will and Faith had built up since the last book. They work together well even though they do not communicate well with one another. I feel like they will eventually get there. I do like that there is no romantic tension between the two of them and they are just partners with other things going on with their lives, even though both of their personal lives are a mess.

As for the case, it is a doozy. The torture of the poor women was almost too much at times, and then the reveal of what they all had in common was sad. There was so much abuse. There were constant surprises throughout the book that I did not see coming. Even when I could guess what I thought would happen, it would still go a different way than I was expecting. It was still very satisfying by the end of it.

I enjoyed this book so much that I ordered the rest of the Will Trent series to read, as well as the Grant County. I have so much Karin Slaughter to read now!
