But all our phrasing—race relations, racial chasm, racial justice, racial profiling, white privilege, even white supremacy—serves to obscure that racism is a visceral experience, that it dislodges brains, blocks airways, rips muscle, extracts organs, cracks bones, breaks teeth. 5 out of 5 stars
Between the World and Me is a powerful book. It puts you in the author’s shoes growing up and as a parent trying to figure out the best way to raise his son in today’s world. It also puts you into the shoes of other black men and women in history and how they felt in America. This book is heartbreaking to read, but I think it is a book that should be a must read for everyone. It is written in a conversational style and is only 152 pages long, making it a quick read. It isn’t light-hearted by any means, but I highly recommend it.
