Amazing Race: Double Layer Bird Hat

doublebirdhat

During the sixth leg, teams stayed in Morocco where they had to deliver hay, build a camp and milk goats. Throughout the episode, this chicken hat guy kept popping up, including at the pit stop where he had gained a dove in the process. Click through to read what Amy, Steve and I thought about double layer bird hat guy and rest of the episode.

When this leg started, Steve picked the wrestlers to go home at the end of the leg while Amy and I both were picking the mother/daughter team. I believe all our picks were based on who we wanted to leave combined with who we thought would actually come in last place this leg.

The leg began with teams finding some horse-drawn carriages and carrying some hay to a location and then returning the carriages to specified location. They also were able to feed the horses an apple when they were done. I liked the apple part, but felt bad for the poor horse that was on the wrestlers team since Robbie was eating the apple that was supposed to be for the horse! Amy wanted to know why camels were not part of this task. I agreed that would be potentially more hilarious.

Most of the teams headed to the task by taxi. T&T,  mother/daughter team and scientists  decided to walk because they asked people the direction but not the distance. It ended up being 10k, which is over six miles away. Quite a hike for those teams! T&T did finally figure it out and take a cab there. The scientists and mother/daughter saw the surfers who were finishing up the task and asked them where to pick up the hay. That’s when they were told to get in a taxi.

All the teams did the hay task fairly quickly except for the ones that didn’t grab a taxi right away. They were all lost when they arrived in the general area. The scientists just grabbed some hay and put it up where they were told except that they grabbed some random hay from some poor person that will later wonder where their hay went. T&T showed up and questioned their thought process before finding the correct hay.

The next task was a detour where teams had to set up a camp or go into a casbah to milk a goat and make some butter. Judging tasks are usually super hard, but milking a goat and turning it into butter? Sounds like it would take forever! I said I would pick setting up the camp instead of milking the goat and Steve responded, “But then you won’t be able to rock the casbah!”

The bicyclists and surfers decided to milk the goat. The goat made great faces. Amy said, “The goat is thinking, you are not skilled at this!” I said, “The goat is thinking, ‘You are doing it wrong! Do it better!'” After milking the goat, the bicyclists got the milk into the bag that they had to shake to make cheese. They asked a guy how long it would take. He said 45 minutes. They freaked out and switched to the other task of setting up a camp.

The dentists were the only other team at the camp task when the cyclists arrived. While Jim was sewing the sides of the tent together, Misti talked about how Jim went to medical school before becoming a dentist and was a star at suturing. I said, “Of course Mr. Dentist is the best at everything.”  After finding that putting together the camp was taking longer than they thought and also thinking they would have been done with the goat task if they had stuck with it, the cyclists switched tasks.

The wrestlers showed up at the goat task. Brooke had to do most everything including catching and milking the goat since Robbie was afraid of them. He doesn’t like animals because they don’t speak English. Actually he did help find a new goat once Brooke had emptied out one. She said to look for a big-boobed goat. Robbie found one and yelled, “Look at the big ones on this!”

The dentists were the first team to finish either detour task. I wonder if the cyclists would have finished the goat task if they wouldn’t have switched halfway through it. The surfers were the first team to finish the goat task and second team to finish any detour. T&T and the scientists were still heading to a detour and the mother/daughter team were lost and not communicating well as usual.

T&T ended up at the camp detour when no one else was there. They were pretty hilarious setting it up, but got it done with really no issues. They were the third team to finish either detour so I guess the camp does go faster than the goat task if you aren’t frustrated and worrying about switching.

It took a couple of tries, but the cyclists finally made enough butter to get the next clue. They were the fourth team to leave the detour. We learned that Maya was getting her PhD in milk fat, so she knew the best way to shake the bag to make the cheese. It also led to Amy calling her Dr. Milk Fat. The scientists and wrestlers finished up the task around the same time and not too far after the cyclists. The wrestlers thought they were in last place and were thrilled that as they were driving away, the mother/daughter team were pulling up to the goat task. They were so far behind!

The next task was a road block where one team member had to cross a crazy bridge and do a zip line. Somewhere in the middle, they would have to solve a puzzle before finishing the task. That’s the place where another team could bypass them.

The dentists arrived first and Misti did the road block before any other team arrived. As they were leaving, the surfers showed up. I was impressed that Bethany was crossing the bridge with just one arm to hold onto the rope, but Steve reminded me that she already has great balance. When she got to the puzzle part, I was wondering how that was going to work since it seemed like two arms were needed to put it together. She just used her feet!

For a while it seemed like the puzzle was slowing no one down, but the cyclists and T&T arrived to the road block around the same time so they did actually do the puzzle together to get through it faster. The scientists also got lost on the way to the road block since they loved to get lost so they arrived after the wrestlers even though they left the detour before them.

We did get to listen to Brooke whine the entire way across the rope bridge.  That was fun. Then when Brooke arrived at the puzzle, she just stared at everything and didn’t understand she had to put something together. Sigh. Maya did catch up to her on the puzzle part. She became even more frustrated, but still finished the puzzle before Maya. The scientists were still out of there before the mother/daughter showed up.

After finishing the road block, teams were given a picture of the next pit stop. It must not have been hard to identify since no one got lost finding it. The dentists came in first place and won a trip to Brazil. They were also able to see the guy with all the birds on his head. A few teams were able to wear one of the birds on their head while they checked in. The mother/daughter team was the last team to arrive. Since no sad music was playing while they were finishing up, we were worried it was a non-elimination leg, but it wasn’t. They were eliminated and we don’t have to see them be passive aggressive with one another followed by a lot of eye rolling.
