Skins

I shouldn’t be interested in a show that follows a group of British teenagers. I can’t get into Gossip Girl or the relaunched  90210. I ignored this show when it first came out. It aired on BBC America last year while already airing earlier than that in the U.K. I had heard good things about it, but couldn’t get myself to even try it out. Then for some odd reason, I decided I needed to see what the fuss was about it. There are three seasons, each with 10 episodes a piece. I pretty much watched all three seasons in one weekend. That was over a week ago. I am ready to watch more, but I don’t even know if there will be any more.

The first two seasons follow the same group of kids around while they figure out how to grow up and deal with parents that ignore them while they have too much sex, drink too much and do too many drugs. It’s pretty realistic and addictive. One nice thing about it, that they always fail to do on the U.S. shows, is after the second season, all the kids graduate and move on in different directions so the show quits following them. One of the main kids’ younger sister who shows up briefly before becomes one of the main characters in the third season and the show follows the kids around her age at that point. I would have to say that the first two seasons are much better than the third one, but I’m not sure if I was totally invested in the characters until the second season. I would have to see another season with this new group of kids to know if it just isn’t as good or if they took some time to grow on me.

I don’t know if there will be a fourth season though. All three seasons have played in the U.K. already. The third season played a few months ago. It airs on BBC America later on this year. I recommend it if you want to get sucked into outrageousness with an accent.

As a bonus, you can also watch where the main character from Slumdog Millionaire got his start. He’s one of the kids in the show!
