TAR: Hello Camels!

Amazing Race
Alright Guys, We’re at War!

I know they have people leave in the order that they arrived at the pit stop and some teams have an advantage by coming in first, but I really like it when teams pretty much start at the airports at the same time and end up on the same flight. I think it is more exciting when the race has people succeed or fail by not reading clues or doing poorly at tasks than taking a delayed flight or something out of their control. I like them to succeed and fail on their own.

Order teams left the pit stop:

  1. Margie & Luke – 12:18 am
  2. Tammy & Victor – 12:24 am
  3. Jamie & Cara – 12:30 am
  4. Mel & Mike – 1:01 am
  5. Mark & Michael – 1:02 am
  6. Kisha & Jen – 1:28 am
  7. Christie & Jodi – 3:09 am

Clue: Teams had to fly to Jaipur, India. They had to connect through Moscow. Once there, they had to take a taxi to a remote village of Duhla to find a sacred tree, Peepli Ka Pedh, and their next clue.

Luke was not thrilled about going to India. He said it wasn’t one of their top places to visit, but Margie did say it would be different. Tammy was excited since it would warm. Jamie couldn’t wait to get out of the huge jackets. Mel said that he would miss Russia when he started to think about all the people in India.  There was no airport drama since everyone went to Moscow and New Delhi, but all took the same flight from New Delhi to Jaipur.

Jaipur, India

1406jaipur

Tammy and Victor were the first ones off the plane and in the cab heading to Duhla to look for the tree. The flight attendants were in second place. Mel & Mike were in a cab, but their driver didn’t know where to go so they hadn’t left yet.  The stuntmen were going for a car when Margie & Luke almost got in it, but the stuntmen got there first. They were off in third place.  The cheerleaders asked their cab driver if he had enough gas and then they took off in fourth place. Mel & Mike decided to switch cabs, but their driver was determined to figure out where to go. He ran off to find out from someone else while Mel & Mike were trying to get the trunk open to grab their bags so they could get into another cab. Kisha & Jen got into a cab and were off in fifth place. Margie & Luke finally found a cab and were off in sixth place. Mel & Mike’s cab driver finally came back and said he knew where to go so they left with him in last place. The driver said he would make up the time by driving very fast.

The flight attendants were stuck at the gas station while their cab got gas. Maybe they should have asked like the cheerleaders did! The other teams were driving through a very poverty-stricken part of the city where there were a lot of stray dogs, cows and goats that were eating trash. There were also some kids with hardly any clothes on or naked. Luke started crying after seeing some kids eating trash.

1406tree

Tammy & Victor were the first ones to arrive in the village and find the tree. There was a phone. It said to get the next clue, dial one of the numbers listed on it. Victor listened to it, but the man’s accent was too think for him to understand. They called over their cab driver to listen and tell them what the man was saying in the message.

Clue: Go to Amber Fort and find Guara Parvati Parking.

While Tammy & Victor took off they passed all the other cabs on the road, except the flight attendants who were behind because of the gas stop. They were thrilled they were in first place still. The other teams prepared to all run for the clue when they got to the tree. All the teams ran to the tree, but couldn’t find a clue box. They all ran right by the phone and wandered around looking for a clue under rocks or hidden around the tree. The sisters finally read the phone so they were going to listen to it. Margie & Luke said they were next. The stuntmen noticed the second phone but the cheerleaders got to it first. The cheerleaders weren’t completely sure about what they heard but took off towards the cabs. Margie asked the guy to repeat the information but didn’t really know what he said. She said they could just follow another team, while handing over the phone to the stuntmen. Mel & Mike thought they had it too, but the stuntmen were still trying to figure it out.

While getting into the cab, Jen asked the cab driver if he knew where Amber Football was located. He corrected her with Amber Fort and said he knew. The cheerleaders tried to follow the sisters, but their cab driver was being Chatty Cathy with the remaining cab drivers.  He finally got in the car and Cara asked him to take them to Amber Parking. He said okay. Where would they end up? Mel & Mike felt pretty confident in their cab driver. Margie said they were taking their chances by staying in the caravan of taxis. The stuntmen finally got something written down so they took off. After all the teams left, the flight attendants arrived. They found the phone right away and took off.

Camels

Tammy & Victor arrived at the fort. Their cab driver pointed out the building to them and parked where he could. They ran to find a road block clue.

Road Block: One team member had to care for a herd of camels. They had to pick a group of camels and then carry enough food and water for each of the camels in their group.  Once there was enough hay to go up to the line and the water trough was filled, they received their next clue.

Victor decided to do it. He read the clue that said to pick a herd, which he didn’t do. He ran over to the camel feed with the water bucket and said he would do that first. Tammy asked him if he was doing it right.  Then when he carried it over, he realized that he needed to use traditional tools. He ran back with a wooden basket and said it was better than the bucket to carry camel feed.  He finished the camel feed and ran over to do the water before any other teams had arrived. He was getting tired though. He had about half the water trough filled when the other cabs arrived. The sisters and stuntmen showed up to the clue box first. Kisha, Mark, Jamie, Mel and Margie decided to do the roadblock.

1406roadblock

Jamie ran up to her camel herd and started asking the guys with the camels where the feed was located. She then didn’t like that they didn’t speak English. Nice! She was asking if she should use the bucket for the feed and ran off saying, “Oh, you’re annoying me,” when the guy didn’t understand her. Mark ran up to the water trough with his bucket so the other team members followed suit. Margie could hear Luke try to cheer her on so she knew she had to keep going, even though the water was heavy. Mel was really struggling and Mike wondered if it was a good call to have him do the roadblock, even though it was his turn. While the other teams worked on filling up the water trough for the first half of the task, Victor finally finished up the entire road block to receive his next clue. The flight attendants had not shown up yet. While running down to meet Victor, Tammy totally biffed it. She just fell, but said she was okay. She asked why she was so clumsy.

Clue: Teams had to make their way to a puppet store in a market bazaar to find the next clue.

While Tammy and Victor were running to their cab, they passed the flight attendants who were making their way over to the clue box.  Jodi decided to do the task. She started with the water. Jamie filled up her trough and thought it was filled enough but it wasn’t. She ran back for more water. Kisha finished the water part and moved onto the camel feed. Mike was feeling so bad that his dad was doing the road block. He really wished he had taken it, but it was too late to change it. Kisha went over to the feed and started scooping it up. She said, “I sure hope I have the right method right now.” I guess she missed the baskets. Mark and Margie were using their water buckets to carry the feed. When Victor read the clue, it said something about using traditional tools. I wondered if the other teams feed would not count if they were not using the baskets. Mel finally finished up the water and looked over to see the baskets and rake. He grabbed those. It looked like  Mel filled up tons of feed into his basket and started to carry it back. Jodi was still working on the water part of the task.

Back in town, Tammy & Victor found the puppet shop and their next clue, which was a Detour.

Barrels vs. Dancing

Detour: The two tasks plunged the teams into the chaotic streets of Jaipur. In Movers, teams had to pick a bicyle at one gate, which was loaded high with barrels filled with hay. They had to pedal 1.5 miles through the congested streets to another gate. Once they reached the gate, they had to search through their barrels for a small metal elephant to get their next clue. In Shakers, teams had to put on costumes and make-up before joining a dance troupe. Then they had to go into the streets to dance for tips. After earning 100 rupees, they could exchange the cash for the next clue.

Tammy & Victor decided on Shakers. They got dressed up in horse outfits, put on make-up and picked a band to follow them around. They were having a blast dancing around asking for money.

Back at the camels, Mel was using the basket while everyone else was doing it the hard way. Jodi finished up the water part and moved onto the feed. Kisha finally looked over and saw Mel using the basket. She quit using her jersey that she was wearing and ran over to get a basket. Luke saw what was happening and got his mom’s attention so she could get a basket. Jamie got one too. They were all yelling at each other saying they would have been done a lot faster if they had done it right the first time.  Amazingly, Mel finished before the rest of them! Go Mel! I’m so happy when using their brains and reading the clues beats everyone else.

1406dancing

They were off to the puppet store, while Tammy & Victor still were dancing in the streets for money. Jamie finished up next so the cheerleaders were on their way. Margie and Kisha finished up soon after. That left Mark and Jodi at the road block. Mark finally finished so they took off. Jodi finished up right after so they were off to the puppet store in last place, but caught up to the other teams.

At the detour, Tammy & Victor thought they had enough rupees, so they ran to turn it in. They received their next clue.

Clue: Teams had to make their way to the next pit stop. They had to take a taxi to Jaigarh Fort, a 15th century fortress.

While Tammy and Victor headed to the pit stop so far ahead of the other teams, Mel & Mike arrived at the puppet store. They decided to do the dancing since Mel had already done tons of heavy lifting. While Jamie was getting closer to the puppet store complaining about the nonstop honking and being annoyed that Mike & Mel were already dancing away in the streets, Mike & Mel were having a blast dancing around and having fun with the locals in the streets. It’s all about the attitude!

The stuntmen got to the puppet store in third place and picked the bicycles. The sisters were there next and decided to dance. Margie & Luke and cheerleaders also picked dancing. The sisters were having fun immediately with their dancing. Luke couldn’t hear the music while dancing, but he would imitate what he saw. He looked like anyone else out there. The cheerleaders were finally having a fun time dancing around. The stuntmen got to the bicycles and started pedaling. The flight attendants arrived at the detour, but found the Speed Bump that they had to do first.

Speed Bump: Christie & Jodi had to go to a temple and use colored paint to decorate an elephant for an upcoming festival.

1406elephant

They were very excited about their painting task. While they did that, the other teams danced, the stuntmen rode their bikes, and Tammy & Victor arrived at the fort.

Pit Stop

1406pitstop

Tammy & Victor arrived to the fort to greet Phil and a guy playing wooden flutes with his nose. WAT! They came in first place and each won an ocean kayak.  Back at the dancing, Mel & Mike finished up and headed to the pit stop. Margie had way too much lipstick on so some was stuck on her teeth. Mike saw it while getting into his cab to leave. Margie had no idea and Luke was behind her so he didn’t see it.

The flight attendants were still painting their elephant when the cheerleaders got enough money  to leave. They couldn’t find their taxi though, which had their bags in it. Oh nice. Why do people leave their stuff in cabs? While they looked for their taxi, the flight attendants finished up painting their elephant and headed back to the detour. Margie & Luke finished up. Margie asked the cheerleaders why they hadn’t left yet. While they explained, Luke tried to drag his mom away. He won’t help you cheerleaders if it means he can get ahead! While Margie & Luke took off, the cheerleaders finally found their cab driver. While they yelled at him, he just laughed. The sisters finally got all their money and headed back to turn it in.

1406bikes

The stuntmen arrived at the other gate and started to unload their barrels so they could search through them. The flight attendants picked the dancing task. The sisters turned in their money and headed off to the pit stop. The sisters had no idea where they were in the order of things. They didn’t see other teams leave, but they did pass by the stuntmen when they were driving away so they knew they were ahead of them and the flight attendants. The stuntmen were getting frustrated and knew they were missing something when they couldn’t find the elephant. The flight attendants were only seven rupees away from finishing their task.

Mel & Mike arrived at the pit stop in second place. Mike talked about his dad smoking the other teams in their twenties. I think they are my favorite team. Back at the detour, the brothers kept searching and the flight attendants finally finished. They were off to the pit stop. The brothers finally found the elephant and headed to the pit stop.

At the fort, a few taxis arrived around the same time. Margie & Luke, Kisha & Jen and Jamie & Cara were all running up to find Phil. The third team to check in ended up being Kisha & Jen, followed by Margie & Luke and Jamie & Cara. Even though it looked like the flight attendants left the detour first, the stuntmen where the first ones to find Phil on the mat. Maybe their detour got them closer to the pit stop to begin with! They checked into the mat in sixth place, which left the flight attendants to come in last place again. They were eliminated from the race.

The order the teams arrived at the pit stop:

  1. Tammy & Victor
  2. Mel & Mike
  3. Kisha & Jen
  4. Margie & Luke
  5. Jamie & Cara
  6. Mark & Michael
  7. Christie & Jodi

Questions

  1. Were you sad to see the flight attendants leave?
  2. Do you think the flight attendants left for the pit stop farther away from the brothers or did the brothers just have a better taxi cab driver?
  3. Is anyone else ready for the cheerleaders to leave with their Ugly American comments from yelling at people in foreign countries for not speaking English or understand them?
