X-Files: I Want to Believe
X-Files: I Want to Believe
Directed: Chris Carter
Starring: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Amanda Peet, Xzibit, Billy Connolly
This felt like a very long episode and not one of the good ones. It would have been one of the episodes I would have watched only once with no reason to go back to watch it again. I think the main issue with it was there wasn’t much weird or supernatural about it. Well, I guess there were some things like the priest claiming to know things he shouldn’t and the weird medical experiments going on, but it was just wasn’t the same level of bizarreness that was in the series. It didn’t feel like a true X-Files case.
I honestly don’t remember much how the series ended since I quit watching not too long after David Duchovny left the series. The entire series I wanted Scully and Mulder to get together but when he came back for the series finale, the chemistry was gone. It felt forced since I felt like he didn’t want to be there any more. It felt the same in the movie. I didn’t think there was any chemistry between the two of them.
While, I didn’t completely mind that it felt like a long regular episode, I wish it would have been like either one of the funny episodes or one of the super spooky, scary ones. I didn’t mind that it didn’t have anything to do with the overall mythology of the series since those were never my favorite. This one was like none of those though. It just felt odd. I tried to improve it by playing the drinking game we used to play while watching it in college, but it didn’t improve it enough.
Rating: C
I could not agree more. I am a noromo, so the ‘chemistry’ between the characters, other than being able to function as partners, was never a selling point for me.
The plot of this movie was worse than the plots of “Badlaa”, ‘Jump the Shark” and “The Rain King” combined. All episodes one couldn’t pay me to re-watch.
I thought all of the original XFiles actors looked good. It didn’t seem that Amanda Peet or Xzibit were needed for the story unless it was for canon fodder. Even the Peet character’s death seemed…silly, contrived and overlong. As for a rating of C. You were generous. I wanted my money back.
I agree that the other agents didn’t need to be there at all. I think when the death happened, I was on the verge of napping from boredom and it just made me chuckle. It felt completely random.
I thought that IWTB was fair. I’ve seen much worse. As far as the chemistry between Duchovny & Anderson, i disagree with you. That is one thing they still had going for them.
