Hitman

Hitman

Directed: Xavier Gens
Starring: Timothy Olyphant, Dougray Scott

Based on a video game, an assassin has been set up so he’s out for revenge, and because he didn’t get paid for that job where he was set up.

When I saw this movie, I had no idea it was based on a video game. I laughed when I saw it in the opening credits. I also had no idea Timothy Olyphant was in it until I saw his name in the opening credits. I loved him in Deadwood as Sheriff Bullock. I guess I half paid attention to the trailers, but that’s because I had no desire to see the movie. We just ended up at the movie theater, and it was something everyone could agree on to watch out of what was playing so I went with it. I was in the mind set of watching a mindless shoot ’em up and that’s what I got!

I admired that Mr. Hitman was so devoted to his craft that he never wavered, even when a pretty girl was throwing herself at him. How he dealt with her half taking off her clothes and jumping on him was hilarious. He was committed to the job! There were many things that made no sense or just made me laugh though:

  • The movie makers assumed that audience was stupid by informing us of each country each scene took place in. It makes sense to do it the first time, but once it goes back and forth from two countries we don’t need to be told again. I also hope people know London is in England and Moscow is in Russia, but we were told “London: England” and “Moscow: Russia” each time. Thanks movie guys!
  • The hitmen guys are supposed to be impossible to locate, yet they all have bald heads with bar codes on the back of their heads. Wouldn’t they have laser tattoo removal or maybe grow their hair in order to blend in and hide? Why are they so hard to find?
  • The hitman asks the Interpol guy who is chasing him how does a good man decide when to kill. I don’t even remember the answer other than it made no sense and neither did the dialogue that followed it. It was the big point of the movie yet there really was no point of the movie. I guess nothing can change in the hitman’s life so he can continue killing in the video game.

This didn’t make me enjoy the movie any less since I already had my low expectations set. I was successful in turning my brain off and just going with it.

Finally, this movie did not make me like Dougray Scott any more. I found him wussy and bland in Desperate Housewives and just bland in this one. Is that an improvement?
