New Shows

Next Great American Band
Channel: FOX
Time: 8/7c
Premieres: October 19
Trailer: none

Synopsis: The people behind American Idol want to do the same thing for a band that they did for pop singers. The judges are a rude judge from Australian Idol, percussionist Sheila E. and Johnny Rzeznick of the Goo Goo Dolls

Buzz: This has been done before with Rock Star: INXS and Rock Star: Supernova to not great ratings so not sure why it would work on Friday night of all places.

My Take: If I expected there to actually be good music, I’d check it out, but since it is the American Idol people, I’m sure their taste in music sucks. I mean, they do have the guy from the Goo Goo Dolls.

Channel: FOX
Time: 9/8c
Premieres: September 14

Synopsis: It is a reality show, but shot like a drama since it is from the same people that make Laguna Beach. It follows eight singers trying to make it in Nashville.

Buzz: It is supposed to be as addictive as Laguna Beach and The Hills, except that after two weeks, it has been put on hiatus already. FOX swears it hasn’t been canceled, but maybe they are hoping the lead in of the Next Great American Band will help it later on.

My Take: It is nothing that I want to watch since I really wish those reality shows that look like dramas would just go away.

Channel: NBC
Time: 9/8c
Premieres: September 28
Cast: Alex O’Loughlin, Jason Dohring, Sophia Myles, Shannyn Sossamon

Synopsis: A vampire living in L.A. is also a private investigator, yet this is not Angel.

Buzz: It was created by one of the guys from Angel, but he has left the show due to "personal reasons". Then the entire pilot was overhauled and almost all the cast was changed except for the lead. The critics never saw the original or the new pilot to review it.

My Take: Even though it sounds like Angel, I do love the vampire shows. I was already going to check it out, even though I was worried about all the behind-the-scenes nonsense. Then when I heard that they hired Jason Dohring from Veronica Mars, I was definitely going to check it out.

Women’s Murder Club
Channel: ABC
Time: 9/8c
Premieres: October 12
Cast: Angie Harmon, Paula Newsome, Laura Harris, Aubrey Dollar

Synopsis: Based on the book series of the same name from James Patterson, it involves a San Francisco homicide detective that gets help from her friends to solve murders.

Buzz: It is a procedural show with a twist in that you actually get to know the characters and their lives while they are solving the murders. Critics worry it won’t last due to its timeslot on Friday night and shoved in between two incompatible shows: 20/20 and Men in Trees.

My Take: It didn’t strike my fancy right away, but after
watching a few trailers, it does look interesting. I think I’ll check
it out.

Right now I have Moonlight and Las Vegas for Friday night. I’m thinking of adding Friday Night Lights cuz I’ve heard it is very good but I don’t know how much I care about high school football.

I’ve read some of the Women’s Murder Club books so I’ll probably check out the show, but sometimes the characters annoyed me in the books so I don’t know if I will like them any better on TV.
