FOX New Shows

New Dramas

Justice

Premiere: Wednesday, August 30
Time: 9/8c

About: Victor Garber (Alias)heads up a cast of attorneys that deal with high-profile cases.

Buzz: It looks like a very slick, breezy lawyer show focusing on high-tech jury analysis. It also shows what actually happened at the end of each episode, to see if the client was guilty or innocent.

Standoff

Premiere: Tuesday, September 5
Time: 8/7c

About: Two FBI negotiators are romantically involved and their boss wants to separate them, but they work better as a team.

Buzz: I love Ron Livingston, but the female lead bugged me in the minute-long preview. They also didn’t have any chemistry, so the show isn’t winning me over at this point. Critics say the secret romance was not a secret way too soon. It should have been built up and then spilled over a few episodes at least. Also, too much is told instead of shown of their outside-of-work romance, so no one is buying them as a couple.

Vanished

Premiere: Monday, August 21
Time: 9/8c

The show is only scheduled for 13 episodes for the first half of the season. If it proves successful, FOX will have to find room for it, like it did with Prison Break last season.

About: A senator’s wife goes missing and group of detectives uncover a whole bunch of other stuff while searching for her.

Buzz: This is a very similar premise to NBC’s Kidnapped. This one seems to have a better storyline, but the cast isn’t as interesting. It hasn’t grabbed any critics in the pilot, but since it does start earlier than other shows, they are willing to give it a shot until it does grab them or other new shows start.

New Comedies

Happy Hour

Premiere: Thursday, September 7
Time: 8:30/7:30c

About: A guy loses his job and girlfriend, so he finds a new roommate who gets him a job and helps him start a fun life as a bachelor.

Buzz: No one seems to like this show. It has been called “uninspired” and compared to forgotten sitcoms in the 90s. It has the vote of being the first canceled show of the season.

‘Til Death

Premiere: Thursday, September 7
Time: 8/7c

About: A newly married couple move next door to a close-to-middle-aged married couple.

Buzz: The good news is that it is mostly an ensemble so Brad Garrett doesn’t get to hog the screen like he would do if he was the lead. The bad news is that it is a one-joke show that isn’t funny enough to fill up one episode, let alone a series.

New Reality

Celebrity Duets

Premiere: Tuesday, August 29
Time: 8/7c

About: Eight celebrities (Chris Jericho, Lucy Lawless, Cheech Marin, Carly Patterson, Alfonso Ribeiro, Jai Rodriguez, Hal Sparks and Lea Thompson ) sing with musicians (Clint Black, Michael Bolton, Belinda Carlisle, Taylor Dayne, Macy Gray, James Ingram, Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx, Brian McKnight, Aaron Neville, Smokey Robinson, Randy Travis and Dionne Warwick) while viewers vote for their favorite duet.
