White Oleander

White Oleander
Author: Janet Finch
A teen girl gets put into foster care after her mother goes to prison for murdering her boyfriend.

I was drawn in immediately with how the book began with learning about Astrid’s mother, the murder and then the first foster home she experiences. They aren’t all good experiences, but it kept me reading. After moving around a bit more, the book spends a good amount of time with one family where good things start to happen for her. I found this part extremely boring though. I had to drudge to get through it. When she finally moves onto another foster family, the story picks up again. Then it all stops after she finally turns 18 and gets out of the foster system. I really disliked the ending.
